We are in this together — March 2020 Fundraising Campaign
When The Crucible was forced to close due to the COVID-19 shelter-in-place mandate in Alameda County, we faced immediate and significant challenges. Normally, spring is our busiest and most impactful season—with packed classes, mission-driven community events, and our largest annual fundraiser. Closing our doors meant losing crucial operating revenue, deeply affecting our ability to support over 200 working artists who rely on The Crucible for employment and studio space.
Within a few days of shutting down, I quickly launched a fundraising campaign, highlighting the urgent need to sustain our community. We created a Community Emergency Fund, distributing direct financial assistance to our most impacted staff and faculty, maintained healthcare coverage for eligible employees, and partnered with local food providers to address immediate food insecurity.
Through strategic website design, email, and social media messaging, we successfully raised over $65,000 in just a few weeks.
The campaign emphasized community solidarity, creativity, and resilience. Additionally, we provided essential resources and virtual events to keep our community engaged and supported during these challenging times. This campaign showcased the power of collective action, ensuring The Crucible remained strong, creative, and ready to reopen and serve our community when possible.
